Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo is open seasonally each year, with hours changing as warm summer weather allows more and more of our exotic animals to enjoy Maryland’s outdoor environment.

Hours of operation:

March – weather permitting from 10 am-5 pm

April – 10 am-5 pm

May – 9 am-5 pm

Memorial Day – Labor Day 9 am-6 pm

September – 10 am-5 pm

October – 10 am-5 pm

November – 10 am-5 pm, weather permitting

**Last admission taken one hour before closing


A full schedule of Shows and Encounters are offered starting mid-April.

  • Our Shows are fun, lively adventures with lots of opportunities to learn about and touch selected animals.
  • Encounters are special times when you can get closer to a safe animal, learn inside facts about our big favorites or feed an animal a special snack.
  • These visits are hosted by trained volunteers, education or animal care staff, giving you a variety of information and viewpoints.

Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo Admission Policies

Pet Policy
For the health and safety of our animals and yours, the CWPZoo does not allow pets on the grounds; however, certified service animals are permitted.

Please do not leave your pet(s) in your car during your visit to the Zoo. If we find an animal has been locked in a car, CWPZoo Security will notify proper authorities.

Coolers/Ice Chests
The Zoo permits the use of small coolers and ice chests. Please leave glass containers, disposable straws/lids and balloons at home. Please help keep our Zoo beautiful by placing trash and recyclables in designated receptacles.
