We’re getting ready to go into our winter ‘hibernation’ season at the CWPZoo.  There are always tools, food, buckets, and much more that the Zoo could use to get through the season.  Please take the time to check out our list, maybe there are some items you might have laying around that you’d want to recycle!  We appreciate the donations everyone gives us throughout the year, we couldn’t do it without them!   Thanks again for remembering us and please keep in mind that there is practically nothing we cannot recycle here at the zoo.

Calling All Shutterbugs!

Definition ~ a member of the family of humans that can be identified by the camera around their necks. They may come from anywhere, but they are often seen at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo observing and photographing the unique variety of wildlife. Approach them with caution! They are known to capture thrilling memories of their favorite animals and treasure those memories for years to come.

Here’s How it Works:


Throughout the 2011 season you may enter any of your digital photos shot at the CWPZoo in each of the months of April, May, June, July, August, and a special Fall category, combining September and October. Each months contest photos must be taken within the corresponding month between the 1st and the 30th.

Only pictures submitted electronically though the photo@cwpzoo.com e-mail address are eligible. (If you use conventional film, be sure to ask the photo-processor to have your shots put on CD in addition to the usual prints and negatives. That way you will have digital images as well as film images.)

No special equipment is necessary. Enter as often as you like, but enter your best. There is no age qualification to be a CWPZ SHUTTERBUG. Entries will be judged in the 13 and under and over 13 age categories.

Don’t forget to include your name in the e-mail! Each month’s winner will be announced on the 15th of the following month, for example, April’s winner will be announced on May 15th.  The judges’ decision will be final.  The winner will be announced in the newsletter along with their winning photo as well as posted on the zoo grounds, on the Zoo website and featured on the zoos Facebook page.
