Who knew that our own back yard could be so wild?! Catoctin’s North American section is home to some of our newest and most popular exhibits. White timber wolves are on the prowl, and watch your footing as you walk through Alligator Bayou. Home to over a dozen American Alligators and plenty of native turtles, the bayou offers a moss covered glimpse into a southern swamp. Check the daily zoo events schedule if you want to be there for feeding time.
Playful Coati mundis – the cousins to our raccoons – are just around the corner, busily digging and sniffing for a hidden treat. And the Barred owls are, well, head turning.
A detour into the newly expanded North American building reveals naturalized exhibits for rattlesnakes, copperheads, corn snakes and various small creatures.
